TINA BACKMAN
Tina is a designer and illustrator of surface patterns. After several years and studies abroad, she started her own studio and has since worked with a variety of clients both in Sweden and abroad. Tina's playful illustrations and surface patterns can be found on textiles, blankets, clothing and wallpaper. Her inspiration comes from spending time in the forest but also from her grandmother's collection of Finnish textiles and from her two sons and their adventures. "I am a reflective person and like to think a lot. I am also full of energy and like to laugh a lot and often. A happy and sensitive person who likes to spend time in nature or with a person I really care about." "When I see my design being used to create a beautiful home or given as a gift - it makes me very happy and grateful."
SOFIE BØRSTING
"It is often in the slow meditative process of drawing that the unexpected happens and an idea or a dream takes shape on the paper. " Danish illustrator and designer Sofie Børsting lives in Copenhagen and graduated from the Danish Design School in 2003. After many years of working in the design industry, she finally followed her dream and created an illustrated product line in 2011. They quickly took off and are now sold in some of the finest design stores in Scandinavia and around the world. The highly detailed artworks are created from a combination of carefully hand-drawn botanical elements, collage and gouache. She describes her work as graphic poetry with a hint of fairy tale.
MARKUS JOHANSSON
Markus graduated from HDK (University of Design and Crafts, Gothenburg, Sweden) in 2011. Today he collaborates with both Swedish and international design companies, as well as in his own design studio, in the segments of products, furniture and interior design. He focuses on sophisticated design with simplicity. He seeks inspiration from different environments ranging from man to artifact through analysis and processes. Markus is represented in the Museum of Arts and Design in New York with his "Nest" chair. His vision is to "combine construction, function and form to enrich the everyday experience".
PAPPENPOP
Paula Pappenheim is the founder and designer of Pappenpop, a design studio in Madrid, Spain. She comes from an artistic background and has studied art and graphic design. Paula has a master's degree in surface pattern design and her inspiration comes from architecture, different cultures and the spirit of different, interesting places. Nature is also a great source of inspiration where mathematics is perfectly hidden under the calm chaos and harmony of nature, the way they meet is where art and nature come together and come to life. Pappenpop's designs are internationally represented and selected to enhance a wide range of interior products such as home textiles, tableware and wall paper.
SAM PICKARD
Sam Pickard set up his studio in London in 1996 with the help of a Crafts Council Development Award. She studied textile design at Camberwell School of Art and then spent a year in India. She now lives and works in North Devon and specializes in the design and printing of bespoke interior fabrics and accessories. Her style has been described as "modern rustic" and is inspired by her home in Exmoor. Her pioneering designs have twice been nominated for the British Design Awards.
V&A
The V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum) is the world's leading museum of art, design and performance. It was founded in 1852 to raise the standard of British design and make works of art accessible to everyone. Today, its purpose is to promote the creative industries, inspire the next generation and spark everyone's imagination. The museum holds over two million works and houses 17 national collections showcasing objects of intricate craftsmanship and remarkable innovation. Every year the V&A welcomes 4 million visitors from around the world to South Kensington in London. The collaboration draws inspiration from the V&A's incredible archive and results in a range of home accessories that celebrate the beauty and variety of patterns for which the London museum is known.
ULRICA HYDMAN VALLIEN
Ulrica, who was born in Stockholm, grew up in a family of artists and has studied at the National College of Art, Craft and Design and in scholarship programs in the US and Mexico. She joined Kosta Boda in 1972 and has been awarded major scholarships and prizes, exhibited in museums and exhibitions worldwide, and lectured at Bildwerk in Germany and the famous Pilchuck Glass Center school in Washington State. Ulrica's unmistakable patterns have decorated cell phones and airplane tails, and throughout her career she has used various forms of expression but has always had a very personal meta-production.
KELLY VENTURA
Kelly Ventura is a Michigan-based artist and surface designer who is making a unique mark on the industry with her hand-painted designs. Ventura is inspired by everyday objects, conversations and surroundings and finds joy in bringing these pieces to life with his modern method and style. Her work is full of fresh colors, figurative signs and a hint of playfulness. Kelly Ventura has partnered with many national retailers on a range of home, gift and children's products.
